On Saturday 26th September the band appeared at the finals of the National Brass Band Championships which were held at Harrogate International Conference Centre.
The band gave a most assured and impressive performance (even the MD was pleased!) which saw us predicted to be placed in the top two of the contest. In the end ( and after all its always the adjudicators view that counts) we were placed 6th out of field of 19 bands. Not a bad achievement for a band that was virtually unknown in the competitive scene two years ago.
We received a great deal of support from other local bands and after the contest have been receiving messages(some from members of band we were competing against) expressing disappointment at our result ( See our guest book) . Their comments are really appreciated.
It is also a time we say farewell to our father and son team of Julian and Chris Ablett. Both have been with the band these past two years and made a huge contribution to the band. In addition to contributing to the band on Soprano cornet, Julian has also been responsible for this very web site and we thank him very much for his efforts. We will miss them both and wish them well.
Looking forward the band is now preparing for the remembrance period and following that a busy festive period.
We are promoted to third section as of January 2010 ( again quite achievement in only our 2nd year after returning to contesting)
Plans for 2010 include the recording of the bands first CD and all being well acceptance of an invitation to play at a festival in Germany.
We are currently still looking to fill the BB bass vacancy. With Chris and Julian moving on there are also vacancies on front row Cornet. If interested please do call Dave for a chat on 0785 789 5674
