The band has been saddened to learn of the death of two of its Ex member Keith Wenlock and Jim Genders.
Keith Wenlock passed away a few weeks ago. Keith had been a long serving Bass Player with the band in the 1970s and 1980s. He had been a serving officer at Middlewich and Crewe and was also a deeply religious man. I knew Keith personally as I had been in the band for most of the time he was a member. He was a devout family man, I always remember his joviality and he was a character. He is missed by those who knew him. The band played a Hymn in his memory at Rehearsal and I know he would have enjoyed listening.
I have also just been informed today ( 23rd December) of the untimely death of another former member Jim Genders. Jim passed away yesterday whilst at work.
Jim had been a player with the band for several decades from the 1970s. He was a wonderful soprano cornet player (without doubt one of the best I've ever heard) but above all one of the funniest men I have ever met. His razor like wit kept the band in stitches for years. He was also a brilliant servant of the band.
On a personal note I first met Jim as a young 14 year old when I came to the Police band back in 1975. Jim always supported and encouraged me as a player (yes he also pulled my leg) and that support remained to this day. It was nice that Jim came back to play for the band a few years ago, depping at Chester Cathedral. He never stopped being a supporter of the band.
Those who know, will know that being in a band can be a very special thing, and those lucky enough to spend a long time in the same band will know that relationships are formed which last a life time.
I personally will miss Keith and Jim .
Our sincere condolences go out to their families.
Dave
