The
Cheshire Constabulary Brass Band performed at the Regional Contest, held
in Blackpool on Sunday 9th March. The band played in the 4th Section against
22 other bands. The adjudicator for the 4th Section was Geoffrey Whitham,
playing the Test Piece of ‘Four Cities Symphony’ (Rodney Newton). The band
played in the famous Spanish Hall in the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
The
adjudicator’s remarks:
London:
A
good opening. Some good playing to G. Well Done.
Paris:
Bass
on the loud side for piano. Nice Cornets, Horns and Baritones. Not always
accurate. M is OK, but Bass has been too loud all the way through.
Rome:
OK
a start. Trombones slightly tentative. Soloists do well.
Moscow:
Some
bad tuning in opening bars. Allegro is a good tempo. Trombones slightly
drag. OK to end.
A
performance that had much to command.
The
Cheshire Constabulary Band received 7th place at the regional contests,
out of the 23 competing bands. The Band played extremely well, and so did
all of the soloists, so well done to the whole band and also to Dave Woollam,
the Musical Director. As the band has not been to the Regional Contests
for 6 years, this is a great achievement for everyone.
Also, the Band would
like to thank both Steve Prichard-Jones and Paul Andrews for their valuable
knowledge and advice in the build up to this contest.
