The band started life as the Stockport Borough Police Band of the 1950s.
Several local government amalgamations in the late 1960s and early 70s saw the band being adopted at the Cheshire Constabulary Band.
No history of the band would be complete without due recognition of the incredible role played by Mr Charles Holt who was bandmaster of the band for well over 30 years.
In the early days most of the band were serving officers which allowed the band to perform nearly 60 engagements over the Queens Jubilee of 1977.
We live in a different world today where most of the band come from outside the Police but never the less maintain the traditions of the band and the Police service.
PS the photo below was taken in 1988. Can you spot the 5 members of the band who are still with us today?
